It is rare to find so many distinguishing factors in one region: The Kaziranga National Park has the world’s two-third population of one-horned rhinos. Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya was once the wettest place on earth. Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is home to the second largest Buddhist monastery in Asia. India's largest river island, Majuli in Assam, also has the distinction of being the largest inhabited riverine island in the world.
These north-eastern states of India are just arriving in the tourist market and you will be charmed by its rough patches and sharp corners, especially if you love taking the off-the-beaten path.
