The serene temple located on the banks of the Tungabhadra river is considered one of the most sacred shrines by the Hindus. And what is really fascinating is that a narrow channel of this river flows from its terrace, down through the temple’s kitchen and out through its courtyard. It is impressive how the beautiful sculptures and finely carved pillars at the temple complex are still intact, considering it has been in existence since the 7th century.
The iconic stone chariot at the Vittala Temple is another major tourist attraction. Facing towards the sanctum of the temple, the chariot is a shrine that is sculpted with intricate designs and statues. The base of the chariot is laced with scenes from mythical battlefields. You can also take a 30 minute trek up to the Matanga Hill early in the morning and witness the fabulous view of the sunrise unfold before you.
