The best time to visit Tawang is between May and October. Your first impression of the town will be formed when you cross the Sela Pass – the high-mountain pass that welcomes you to Tawang with panoramic vistas of the town, while Sela Lake romances with the sunrays in the distance.
Another major attraction you can visit is the Tawang Monastery, the second largest in Asia and the largest in India. An imposing structure, you will notice that it stands like a beacon over the valley. The monastery, founded in 1680-1681, will inspire a spiritual calm as you walk inside its assembly hall and study the murals of divinities on the wall. Pay your respects to the 26-foot statue of Buddha in this monastery that inspires positive energies and sends you back with an awakened inner self.
In Tawang, you can also go trekking in the mountains (Gorichen Peak is an adventure lover’s fantasy), see its numerous lakes and waterfalls, or simply sit back in your hotel and enjoy the panoramic views.
